Pav Akhtar

Director of Strategy

Pav (he/him) is an equality and employment law specialist who identifies as a migrant worker.

His professional career spans public, private and voluntary sectors, from the directorship of an international organisation in Switzerland, to serving the UK government as Head of Equality in the Department of Education. Pav has also worked as National Race Equality Officer for UNISON, the public sector trade union, and as political correspondent for The Daily Telegraph newspaper.

Pav was appointed to serve in the Employment Tribunals Service, and as a Public Appointments Ambassador to promote equality.

Pav graduated from Cambridge University where they were elected the first Black President of the Union. They went on to be elected NUS National Black Students’ Officer; a councillor in London Borough of Lambeth, and Governor of Lancashire NHS Trust.

Pav has 25 years experience of LGBT+ rights activist, from advising the Mayor of London, to serving the boards of London Pride, and Imaan – the Muslim LGBT+ group.

Pav has won numerous accolades including the British Diversity Awards’ Gold Medal; Trinity College Dublin’s Outstanding Contribution to Human Rights award, and they feature in the Pink List of influential LGBT people in public life.
