- UK Black Pride main event to take place in Golden Square, London, Saturday 29 June
- UK Black Pride selected to lead London Community Pride march through the capital
With just one week to go until UK Black Pride – Europe’s biggest community-led, not-for-profit support group for African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people – we are proud to have been selected to lead the London LGBT+ Community Pride march through the streets of London on Saturday 29 June.
The highlight of London’s Pride event is the parade which starts at 1pm and follows a traditional route from Baker St., along Oxford St. and Regent St., ending in Trafalgar Square. As one of London’s most vibrant celebrations, the parade will feature more than 10,000 marchers, dancers and singers as well as community groups, unions, businesses, and public service providers all marching for equality, justice and human rights for all. The parade will end with entertainment in Trafalgar Square and Soho, including the best of the London’s LGBT community, including the family friendly UK Black Pride festival in Golden Square.
Phyllis Opoku-Gyimah, UK Black Pride Executive Director, said: “We’re honoured to have been selected to represent the community at the head of London’s Pride parade since it is the community that has helped make UK Black Pride the success it is. With the help of our lead sponsor, Stonewall, the unions, our legal sponsor and smaller advocacy groups, we’re putting on a completely free pride event that focuses on celebrating Black LGBT’s contribution to the many achievements of the wider community. We look to welcome all to love without borders!”
To attend the eighth annual UK Black Pride festival, which takes place on Saturday 29 June in Golden Square London from 12 noon until 8:30pm, please register online for your FREE ticket. The event will feature a main stage packed with live music acts in addition to comedians, cabaret, and drag, supported by top DJs in a dance area, with licensed bars, world food, prizes, community stalls, children’s play area and more. Urban World Pride will keep entertainment going by hosting the official after-party at Club Colosseum, Vauxhall.
UK Black Pride is proud to be a grassroots-led movement of race, faith and LGBT groups and trade union community allies. It shows that putting people and politics at the heart of marking pride in our LGBT community’s progress is the most effective way to pursue the fight for equality, inclusion and steadfast opposition to all forms of bigotry in every section of society.
